Pathology Training for Medical Students

Saint Louis University School of Medicine students interested in pathology can access specialized training, peer support and online resources.  

Pathology Education

The Department of Pathology offers foundational training for students who want to explore the field and/or pursue a pathology career. 

Undergraduate Medical Courses 

School of Medicine students can take pathology courses as early as their first year.

All first-year medical students can take Introduction to Pathology.

Post-Sophomore Fellowship 

This fellowship gives medical students an immersive, residency-style training experience before starting clinical rotations. Two positions are available to candidates who’ve completed their second or third year of medical school.

Pathology Student Interest Group

The Pathology Student Interest Group educates and encourages students who are interested in a pathology career or want to learn more about the role of pathologists in healthcare.  

  • Activities: Attend lunch meetings covering general pathology overviews and subspecialities like transfusion medicine and forensics. 
  • Opportunities: Explore the department’s Post-Sophomore Pathology Fellowship Program.
