Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the SSM Health/Saint Louis University School of Medicine Ophthalmology Residency program. The application process is competitive. Each year, we receive hundreds of applications from some of the country's best and brightest medical students to fill four training spots.

While it is not required, we welcome interested senior medical students to apply to rotate with us as visiting students. Please contact our residency program coordinator for more information.

Application Review

SLU ophthalmology faculty review each application individually. Our review process is holistic and takes into account academic achievements, letters of recommendation, research scholarship, and service, work and life experiences to assemble a cohort of residents who will excel academically, clinically and as members of the ophthalmology department. Our program relies on and welcomes the use of signals in the review process. Reviews are not determined by a minimum USMLE exam score. Step 2 scores are optional but highly recommended.

All applications are processed through the SFMatch. Additional information regarding application deadlines is available on their website.
